Tilling a Field for Asparagus

Here you see the tilling of a new plot for growing asparagus. These works are done in March or April.

Before the planting in March or April can commence, the soil needs some preparation.

A spade plow is applied to the field to dig the soil over as deep as one meter below the ground.

A two-rowed machine is used for the planting of asparagus.

The plants are deposited on a wheel for the exact placement in the soil.
The plants are buried 25 to 30 cm deep into the ground. The distance between the single plants in a row varies and is, depending on he type and method of cultivation, usually between 20 and 40 cm. The first harvesting may take place not before the third year after the planting.
